openHAB 3 Distribution

PRELIMINARY VERSION

The following openHAB 3 downloads are provided for evaluation, testing and development only at this time. The documentation is incomplete, has not been upgraded and may be obsolete. Please use the community forum for any questions or support.

Milestone versions are intermediary releases of the next openHAB version, released about once a month, and they include the new recently added features and bugfixes. They are a good compromise between the current stable version and the bleeding-edge and potentially unstable snapshot version.


Package Installation (Recommended)

  1. Add the repository key
  2. wget -qO - 'https://bintray.com/user/downloadSubjectPublicKey?username=openhab' | sudo apt-key add -
  3. Add the HTTPS transport for APT
  4. sudo apt-get install apt-transport-https
  5. Add the repository
  6. echo 'deb https://openhab.jfrog.io/openhab/openhab-linuxpkg testing main' | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/openhab2.list
  7. Update the package lists and install the openHAB distribution package
  8. sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install openhab
  9. (Optional) Install the add-ons for offline use
  10. 🛈 You don't need the add-ons package if your machine has Internet access, openHAB will download add-ons online as necessary.
    sudo apt-get install openhab-addons
  11. Navigate with a web browser to http://<ip-address>:8080
  12. Continue by following the First-time setup chapter of the New User Tutorial

Manual Installation

  1. Install a recent Java 11 platform (we recommend the Zulu builds of OpenJDK)
  2. Download and extract the openHAB runtime distribution from https://bintray.com/openhab/mvn/openhab-distro:
  3. (Optional) Download the add-on archives for offline use and put them in the addons folder of the extracted distribution:
  4. 🛈 You don't need the add-ons archives if your machine has Internet access, openHAB will download add-ons you need online as necessary.
  5. Run ./start.sh and wait for openHAB to perform its initial startup (this can take a few minutes depending on your machine)
  6. Navigate with a web browser to http://<ip-address>:8080
  7. Continue by following the First-time setup chapter of the New User Tutorial
